FESTIVE FIREFOX: 10 Themes for the Holidays!

In the U.S., the Thanksgiving holiday is only days away, and people all over the world are dusting off their holiday decorations for another season of good tidings and cheer.

So in light of this annual tradition, we thought we’d make your last weeks of 2008 with Firefox more thematically complete. Take a look at these add-ons. They’ll help get you in a snow shoveling and home decorating mood. And all the better to enjoy your Harry Connick Jr. album collection, or whatever you playlist when lighting candles and hanging strings of tinsel.

Share your festive Firefox picks in the comments!

Tinseltown

We’re on version 2.1 of Tinseltown now, after what seems like years of roaming the extension sphere. The theme is appropriately snowy, tinsel-strung, red-bow-tied, and touched with winter green. And it’s one of the more popular items listed in Firefox’s Add-on directory. TwisterMc, the maker of this package, nets five stars and over 14k weekly downloads. (Nearly half a million in all.)

Winter Holiday Christmas

Brought to you by Brand Thunder, the Winter Holiday Christmas theme and toolbar duo are both time-sensitive and interactive. This download gives users a sidebar hosting holiday music and videos, and it recognizes when to present things in daylight or with a night scene.

X-Mas

Animations aplenty here. With X-Mas, snow falls, the chimney smokes, and you’ve got presents and a fir tree, too. Scrollbars strung up with lights? Check. The only downside: No support for Firefox 3. And no support for Firefox 2.0 for Mac OS X, either. If you want to witness those dropping ice crystals, you’ll have to compromise quite a bit.

X-Mas Light

Nearly everything here in X-Mas Light is the same as the add-on above, except for the animated snowfall. And again, Firefox 2.0 only, with no Mac OS X download to speak of.

Arctic Glow

Refashioned in September to comply with Firefox 3, Arctic Glow is pretty much how the name describes. It looks cold, it feels cold. And it’s super shiny! If you’re a hockey fan, a Zamboni driver, a snowmobiler on a frozen lake, or just a fan of frozen H-2-O, this one’s a ripe for the taking.

Blue Ice

More subtle in its icy ways than Arctic Glow, but only available for Firefox 2.0 users at present, Blue Ice is something that you can load today and forget about for months on end without feeling like you left the winter decorations up way too long. 6.5 million downloads thus far is good proof of that.

Blue Ice Lite

Blue Ice Lite’s general delivery is synonymous with its big brother, but the toolbar icons are said to be considerably lower-resolution. If you don’t mind sacrificing a little graphical sexiness for speed, this is the alternative to “the real thing.”

Green Fiber

Ah, the smell of fresh-cut timber. If you want to carry your love for all kinds of green, this is for you. It’s described as “green carbon fiber theme,” but hey, no one needs to know that little detail. It’s green. And you like green. So give Green Fiber a go! Just keep in mind that you’ll need Firefox 2.0 to enjoy it. (Bah, humbug, says the crowd!)

Pro Football

This time of year, the football season is in full swing. When you’re gathered around the family room, there’s a good chance the nearest television is tuned to one game or another. So why not outfit your Firefox installation with the Pro Football theme and toolbar? It’s team agnostic from the get-go.

FootballFox

This one’s for all you old-school Firefox 2.0 fans. Sporting far more green tones than the Pro Football option above, FootballFox is as impressive for its true-to-the-playing-field character as it is with its hard edges. It’s noticeable less popular this week than the that Firefox 3 friendly several lines up, but reviews have been complementary.

(A user explains that a download of Nightly Tester Tools 2.0 will get it to work with Firefox 3.)
